UCI Elects Chairman, Vice Chairman, and General Secretary of the Board of Directors of UCI

After the election of UCI’s Board of Directors by the Eighth Ordinary General Assembly Meeting held last month, UCI’s Board of Directors has completed the election of the positions of Chairman of the Board, Vice Chairman of the Board, and General Secretary, in addition to the appointment of representatives of the company which receive Board seats.

During the Board’s first meeting for this year, Dr. Mohammad Al Sabawi was reelected as the Chairman of Board, Eng. Khaled Al Sabawi was elected as the Vice Chairman, and Mr. Ahmad Al Salahat as the General Secretary. Mr. Foad Abed Al Raouf Jaber was appointed as the representative member of Ahlia Real Estate & Investment Co, Adv. Nidal Taha was appointed as the representative member of United Marketing & Services Co., and Mrs. Nahed Al Kishawi was appointed as the representative member of Ahlia Insurance Co..

The new managerial positions of UCI’s Board of Directors were elected based on high standards, qualifications and experience as to ensure diversity and managerial competencies in order to meet UCI’s investments and activities.

The election of Eng. Khaled, UCI’s General Manager since late 2010, as Vice Chairman, is attributed to his high educational qualifications and young leading personality that left a clear mark on the development of real estate and environment sectors in Palestine and the region. As a Palestinian engineer holding the Canadian passport, Eng. Khaled obtained his BA degree in Computer Engineering from Waterloo University in Canada in 2006. Later on, he became the first certified geothermal engineer in the MENA region and North Africa. In 2010, Eng. Khaled was named One of the World’s Top Energy Entrepreneurs" by Global Post and was ranked the 195th Most Influential Arab by Arabian Business Magazines in their Top 500 Most Influential Arabs.

Eng. Khaled established MENA geothermal company and succeeded in designing and installing the geothermal heating and cooling systems for the first time in Palestine in 2007. Under his leadership, MENA Geothermal became a two-time winner of the Energy Globe Award twice (2009 and 2011). Furthermore, he installed the largest geothermal system in the MENA region at the American University in Madaba, Jordan. Currently, the company is witnessing a local, regional and international expansion.

In late 2010, Eng. Khaled became the General Manager of UCI, MENA’s parent company and one of the largest construction, housing and real-estate development companies in Palestine. He is also a co-founder of the TABO initiative, which is the first project dedicated to creating title deeds and expanding property rights in Palestine as a means of protecting land in Palestine against settlement expansion, while allowing Palestinians from all over the world to own a parceled title deed plot provided with infrastructure services through unprecedented facilities.

Eng. Khaled has participated in numerous and prominent conferences at the local, regional and international level headed by TEDxRamallah conference. In addition, Eng. Khaled is constantly invited to give an address at many universities around the world. He has spoken at McGill University in Canada, at Harvard University and MIT in the United States, at University of Toronto in Canada, at the annual Labor Party Conference in Brighton, England and other universities and major green energy conferences around the world.

Eng. Khaled received Takreem Award for Young Entrepreneur for 2013. This award is granted annually to Arab individuals and organizations who have excelled in the fields of culture, education, science, environment, and social and economic development.
